Life On Life’s Terms: The Power of Surrender and Faith

Life on Life's Terms, was developed to address issues of chemical dependency in the minority community. The show addresses concerns that are unique to the minority population by inviting special guests to share their addiction recovery stories with the listening audience. Guests provide real-life testimony and disseminate information about educational opportunities to our recovering listeners, women, African Americans, Latinos, youth, and parents who are affected by the societal concerns of alcohol and drug abuse. Education and information at the grass roots level is the goal.

On Life's Terms is a 4-stage program, using well established psychological theories, which will help bring your awareness on what your role is in your life, exploring what other people's roles are in your life and how you can begin to live life on life's terms.

Life On Life’s Terms

She founded the Special Olympics Unified sports program for the City of New Haven, and has been running it for a number of years. Paula is currently enrolled in nursing school and plans to work in a health setting when she retires from NHPS. She doesn't mind working as a waitress in the summer. She is also coaching at Hamden Hall school. And she is teaming up with her younger co-worker/teacher to play basketball with the kids in the gym class! If you need an example of an active and involved life, then there it is! I met with her in her NHS office and sat in the gym watching her teach and play with the students. Here are some glimpses of my conversation with her that you might find interesting.

I may be the most unconventional PE teacher around because I just feel that my main purpose is not just to teach the skills, to make them a better thrower or to catch a ball. I have always felt as if my role was to teach them life lessons through physical activity, through movement. As the saying goes: move a muscle, change a thought.

P. M. I see my achievements when I see my students from the past and where they're at, and when they are saying to me how much of an impact I made on their life. Throughout my career, I have taught so many kids. They're all my children. I treat them like my own children. Back in the 90s, I took in two boys in need of a home. They stayed with me for about a year and a half until they graduated. Nowadays, if you did that, you would probably get into some sort of trouble, but back then they needed a place to stay, and they just became part of my family. I still keep in touch with them. They call me mom, and they have their own children now.

Drugs took me away from the world I lived in. In the beginning they made life more exciting. With them came a ton of new experiences and people. Many of the drugs I tried made the world change. I thought they were giving me a new perspective.

Yeah, life is sometimes tough, really tough. Sometimes it requires much help from those I have a respect for, and with whom I have lost my fears. These people help me get through these hard times, as long as I let them know that I am having hard times. My support group, left in the ignorance of my condition, cannot support. It is a lose-lose situation for all, and a dangerous one for the newcomer.

13. I figure that a good mood can be just as contagious as a bad mood and besides, the airline (or other business) didn't get up that day and determined it wanted to make life miserable for as many people as possible - K.T.

As the old guys in AA say, “how can we live life on life’s terms” right now? Because the terms have changed and there’s not a whole lot we can do to change that, but maybe there’s a lot we can do to bear it. So let’s start a list.

"Life on life's terms. I'm glad that there are all these home tests available so that I didn't go to the @americanfilminstitute lunch and spread my germs. I was SO looking forward to going to the @bafta tea and the @criticschoice awards as a nominee and member of a motley crew! 2ff7e9595c
